Indigenous Structures of the North
3/4 JL
As we started this project our grade 3 students were finishing up their science unit about Structures, while the grade 4’s were just beginning their learning about Canada’s north. This project was a way to bridge the two grades, as well as science and social studies topics. Our grade 3’s explored many structures from around the world in a variety of hands-on, and research based activities. As this was the beginning of the grade 4’s unit, this was a way to introduce Canada’s north, and structures that can be found there, as well as their cultural significance. The northern lights were a high interest topic, so it was chosen to be the background of each of our structures. As a class we discussed each structure, and then students were given the chance to explore pictures of each structure, before building their own.
We hope you enjoy experiencing the beauty of Canada’s north!

** This project integrated the grade 3’s science unit about structures, with the grade 4’s social studies unit about Canada’s North. We explored the various indigenous structures that can be found in the north, and each student selected one structure to build. We incorporated an art piece for the background of each structure.
Culture Quilt
3/4 GM
We began our Culture Quilt project by exploring our individual family culture. As we shared and listened about each other cultures, we wove a stronger, inclusive classroom community. Our culture quilt represents our classroom community that is built upon many beautiful cultures.
